Central Turkey, and possibly the most unusual place I have ever been to. The landscape is so wonderfully alien, it's pretty easy to pretend you're on a different planet altogether. Aparently it's like this due to specific volcanic activity and erosion. A lot of the houses are carved into the hills and mountains, and it all looks very impressively like a weird termite city, especially because the area features a LOT of famous underground cities as well. Which are pretty unusual to walk through - you feel awkwardly like a minotaur. There are even blue and red arrows to guide you along and back on a specific ruite because it is so, so easy to wander off and get hopelessly lost in the vastness of 8 floors' worth of tunnels (out of 11; a lot of it hasn't been properly excavated yet) stretching down around 85m and capable of housing up to 50,000 people. FIFTY. THOUSAND. |
